A 57-year-old man was arrested after what became the largest manhunt in Minnesota’s recent history. The suspect was accused of murdering state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.
The suspect, Vance Luther Boelter, was reportedly armed at the time of arrest but surrendered peacefully to law enforcement. Air and SWAT teams had been deployed to locate him.
The attack was labeled a “politically motivated assassination,” and a list of government officials’ names was found inside the vehicle allegedly used by Boelter.
Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were also shot and injured. Both are currently under medical observation in hospital.
Governor Tim Walz condemned the act as “unspeakable” and stressed that such violence must face strict legal consequences.
Melissa Hortman had served 20 years in the Minnesota legislature and was Speaker of the House from 2019 to 2025.
