
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota (28) and his brother Andre Silva (26) tragically died in a car accident in Zamora, Spain. The accident occurred on the A-52 motorway at 12:30am the previous night. Their car suffered a suspected tyre burst while overtaking, veered off the road, and caught fire.
Jota had only been married for 14 days. He recently wed his long-time partner Rute Cardoso and was the father of three children. Jota made 182 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals. Last season, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. For Portugal, he played 49 matches, scoring 14 goals and winning the Nations League twice. He also played for Wolves, Porto, Pacos de Ferreira, and Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool FC expressed deep sorrow and requested respect for the family’s privacy. Jamie Carragher described Jota’s death as “an unimaginable loss.” The football world bids farewell to Jota.
The Civil Guard in Zamora is conducting investigations to confirm the exact cause of death.
