After 2007, the Florida team qualified for the Final Four for the first time. The hero of the game was Clayton Jr., who led the team by scoring 34 points against Auburn. The last player to score over 30 points in both the Elite Eight and the Final Four was Larry Bird in 1979. That record had remained unbroken — until now.
This game was a serious play, both in calm moments and clutch situations. Alijah Martin scored 17 points, giving a big boost to the team. Auburn was leading by 8 points at halftime. But in the end, the Florida boys made a comeback and won 79-73. Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said, “Clayton is the best guard on the floor every night.”
