An elderly woman in the city of Stargard, Poland, has reportedly contracted cholera. She suffered from severe diarrhea and vomiting. Doctors immediately hospitalized her.
Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna stated, “The bacteria might be present, but the disease can only be confirmed if the toxin is detected.”

Medical tests began immediately. Both the hospital and sanitary services activated their procedures. Everyone who came into contact with the patient was isolated for five days.
Dr. Miłosz Parczewski explained, “Even cholera bacteria without the toxin can cause symptoms. But it’s only called cholera when the toxin is present.”

Hot weather and increased travel contribute to the spread of such infections.
Cholera spreads through contaminated water. People should use properly maintained drinking water and avoid unsafe food.
