Ananda Maithriya Thero was born on August 24, 1896, in Baalangoda, Sri Lanka. From a young age, he showed a deep interest in Buddhist philosophy and was ordained as a novice (Samanera) at the age of 13. In 1916, he was fully ordained as a monk. Through his studies in Buddhist philosophy and practices, he worked to analyze and present Buddhist teachings in a clearer manner.

Fluent in Pali, Sanskrit, Sinhala, and English, he made significant contributions to the Buddhist community and the study of Buddhist scriptures and doctrine. One of his most significant achievements was the promotion of Vipassana meditation in Sri Lanka. International Recognition
Due to his profound knowledge and kindness, he was invited to share Buddhist teachings in Myanmar, India, China, Britain, and other countries. In 1969, he was appointed as the Maha Nayaka Thero of the Amarapura Nikaya, where he continued to contribute to the global spread of Buddhist philosophy, earning international leadership recognition.

Ananda Maithriya Thero passed away on July 18, 1992, at the age of 96. His teachings, writings, sermons, and publications continue to help guide Buddhists worldwide in their spiritual journey, promoting mental and spiritual development.
