Gautam Adani, the billionaire chairman of the Indian conglomerate Adani Group, has been accused in the United States of billions of dollars in bribery and fraud.
He was indicted in a New York court on charges of paying $265 million in bribes to Indian government officials to secure contracts for his company.
The contract, prosecutors allege, was expected to generate $2 billion in profits over 20 years and develop India’s largest solar power project.
In addition to 62-year-old Gautam Adani, one of the richest people in the world, seven defendants, including his nephew Sagar Adani, are facing charges in this case, according to Reuters.
Warrants have also been issued to Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani.
However, the BBC has reported that the Adani company has not made any statement about this.
