A tragic accident happened on Saturday in New York. A Mexican naval ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge. Two people lost their lives. Nineteen others were injured
Mayor Eric Adams said the public was shocked and frightened.
The ship, named “Cuauhtémoc,” was hit because of a sudden power outage. It was a training ship. There were 277 cadets onboard. They had come from Mexico.
A tall mast was broken as the ship passed under the bridge. Many locals saw the scene. They were terrified.

The ship was launched in 1982. It is 297 feet long and 40 feet wide. Its mast is 158 feet tall. The bridge’s clearance is only 135 feet. This was thought to be the main cause of the crash.
The bridge was not badly damaged. It was closed for a short time. After inspection, it was reopened.
The ship was removed by the Coast Guard and Navy. No one fell into the water. Everyone’s safety was confirmed. Condolences were offered by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Deep sorrow was expressed for the two lives lost.
