Trump , a US rebel , refuses to pardon

Pamela Hemphill, who served 60 days in jail for her involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, has publicly refused a pardon from former President Donald Trump. In an interview with the BBC, she stated, “We were wrong that day,” and explained that accepting a pardon would disrespect Capitol police, undermine the rule of law, and reinforce false narratives about the attack.

Dubbed “MAGA granny” on social media, Hemphill expressed regret for her actions and condemned attempts to rewrite the events of that day. She believes those who participated in the riot should be held accountable and that granting pardons would erode justice.

Trump’s decision to pardon nearly 1,600 individuals connected to the Capitol riot has sparked widespread debate. While he described the treatment of the convicted as “inhumane,” several Republican lawmakers have criticized the move. Senator Thom Tillis cautioned against potential security risks, and Senator James Lankford stressed the importance of upholding law and order, particularly when law enforcement officers were attacked.

This decision has deepened divisions within the Republican Party, highlighting broader tensions over how to address the aftermath of January 6 and the challenges of ensuring accountability while maintaining political unity.
