Sri Lankan Mango Chutney – A Perfect Balance of Sweet & Spicy

Mango chutney is a delicious and versatile Sri Lankan condiment that brings a unique mix of sweetness, spice, and tanginess to your meals. Whether you enjoy it with rice, roti, or curries, this homemade chutney adds a rich tropical flavor to every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe mangoes (chopped into small pieces)
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2g garlic (minced)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

How to Make It:

  1. Heat the coconut oil in a pan and sauté the onions and garlic until golden and aromatic.
  2. Add turmeric powder, chili powder, and curry leaves, stirring well to bring out the flavors.
  3. Mix in the chopped mangoes, vinegar, and sugar, ensuring everything blends well.
  4. Stir continuously while the mixture cooks down, allowing the flavors to combine. Add salt to taste.
  5. Lower the heat and let it simmer until the chutney thickens to a rich, jam-like consistency.
  6. Once done, transfer it to a clean jar and let it cool before serving.

How to Enjoy It:

This mango chutney pairs wonderfully with rice, roti, and Sri Lankan curries, adding a sweet and spicy twist to your meals. It’s also great as a dip or spread!
