Three killed in train accident in Germany

A train derailed near the town of Riedlingen in Germany. The Regional Express train, traveling from Sigmaringen to Ulm, derailed at around 6:10 p.m.

Due to heavy rains, a landslide occurred, and mud from the hills flowed onto the railway tracks. The soil shifted from one point and covered the track. The train’s carriages derailed and crashed into each other, causing severe destruction.

A 32-year-old train driver, a 36-year-old trainee, and a 70-year-old passenger lost their lives. Another 41 people were injured. They are receiving treatment at hospitals in Ulm, Tübingen, and the Bundeswehr hospital.

Following the accident, a local farmer named Johannes Figel rushed to help. “I can still hear the crashing noise in my ears,” he said.

Bahn Chairman Richard Lutz visited the accident site and struggled to remain composed. “Scenes like this strike directly at our hearts,” he said.

Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder was shocked by the scale of the destruction. “The force that destroyed everything is still visible,” he explained.
