11 Children Missing After Guadalupe River Flood at Camp Mystic

A sudden disaster struck Texas’ popular Camp Mystic. Around 4 a.m., rising river waters swept away cabins at the camp.

Initially, 27 children went missing. Currently, 11 remain unaccounted for — 10 campers and one counselor.

Camp director Dick Eastland died while trying to save the children. His grandson, George Eastland, confirmed his death.

Camp Mystic has been a famous Texas institution since 1926. Daughters of senators, presidents, and oil barons have attended the camp. Former First Lady Laura Bush served as a counselor here. President Lyndon B. Johnson even sent his daughters.

This camp has long been a place where girls from elite families build social connections, leadership skills, and Christian values. But this tragedy raises serious questions about safety at Camp Mystic.
